The IUSSI's journal, Insectes Sociaux, is the leading journal dedicated to the biology and evolution of the social insects and other social arthropods. It has been published continuously since 1954.

  • The official journal of the IUSSI

  • Covers ecology, ethology, morphology, systematics, population genetics, and reproduction among others

  • Publishes original research papers, reviews, and short communications

From the Editor

Insectes Sociaux was established soon after the formation of the IUSSI. Ever since the publication of the first volume in 1954, the journal has been the place for social insect researchers to publish their work. The journal’s importance as the go-to journal for social insect studies has not diminished despite the enormous increase in journals. Insectes Sociaux is the only dedicated journal to the social life of arthropods and essential to the IUSSI community. At the moment of writing, the contribution we receive from the publisher, Springer, for every page published in Insectes Sociaux is pivotal to the financial health of the IUSSI.

Insectes Sociaux publishes Reviews, Short Communications, and Research Articles. We also publish Special Issues on any topic related to social arthropods.

I have always regarded the journal as the perfect gateway to the wider social insect community. All Editor-in-Chiefs, associate editors and members of the editorial board, are, or have been, active participants within the IUSSI.

Each year we select the best Research Paper which comes with a write-up in the journal and a reward of US$1000. Below are the links to the announcements of the last 3 years.

There are three main ways in which you can support Insectes Sociaux and by extension the IUSSI: send us your manuscripts, accept our invitations to review manuscripts and propose topics for special issues.
